There are a lot of fun things to do on a rainy day. But with the rain raining all around and splashy puddles everywhere, who can resist going outside-- especially if there is a pair of red rubber boots nearby just waiting to be worn? Perfect for springtime and rainy-day reading.
Reviews
•This exuberantly glowing book will make readers want to go out and slap in some puddles.
--Kirkus Reviews
•Ray brings to life the highlights of a small boy’s rainy day told from the child’s point of view... Stringer’s acrylic paintings are as vivid as the text. The pictures bring a child’s world up close as they evoke the sights and sensations of the day. The illustrations work smoothly with the text to make this a very effective picture book for reading aloud.

•The author and illustrator of Mud(Harcourt, 1996) collaborate on another distinctive book...The richly textured acrylic illustrations fill the pages, offering a magnified view of the child’s world... this is a welcome addition for any library. The combination of topic, well-designed layout, and appealing artwork make it a great choice whether read aloud or alone on a rainy day.

A Little Bit About...
How I Came to Illustrate Red Rubber Boot Day
When my editor sent me another story by Mary Lyn Ray, I was thrilled. Her stories seem to open doors to my imagination and images pour forth as soon as I read them. My son was three years old when I began working on Red Rubber Boot Day and he loved his rubber boots almost as much as he loved splashing in puddles. He became the star of the book as I followed him around inside and outside the house with my sketchbook and camera.
As I painted the illustrations for this book I realized that I was painting a portrait of a time in my children’s life that they were quickly growing out of. The blocks and stuffed tiger were toys my daughter had already outgrown. Usually I paint from my imagination and draw inspiration from the world outside my home, so painting the illustrations for this book brought me home as an artist.
